This three-story, 41,000-square-foot building will serve as a much-needed permanent home for the Covington City Government. The design brings modern functionality and statement of permanence in proper neighborhood context by incorporating the following elements:
The exterior will feature a limestone and granite stone façade, while a large glass curtain wall will add contemporary elegance.
Inside, the 3-story atrium opens to all three floors to connect the different local government agencies, along with new commission chambers and offices for government officials.
Two spacious outdoor balconies will offer employees a place to enjoy fresh air, and a large courtyard at the front of the building will welcome the public and provide an ideal space for press conferences and community gatherings.
Covington, founded in 1815, is Kentucky’s fifth-most populous city and the largest in Northern Kentucky, located just across the river from Cincinnati. Over the past 50 years, Covington City Hall has moved five times, often to inadequate locations that did not fully support the critical mission of public service. Currently, City Hall is housed in a converted J.C. Penney department store—a temporary solution that began in 2013 and has now stretched into a decade. Given Covington’s rich history, architectural beauty and diverse population, the city government needed a visible, accessible and central location.
