Welcome to Pepper's newest office - custom built to embody our mission
One year ago, we asked ourselves a question: What happens when a construction company is given an opportunity to create its own contemporary office space within a historical structure?
Would they use the latest tools and technology to create the type of environment that they would build for their clients? Will it reflect their company culture and values and optimize employee health?
After a year-long construction journey , we are excited to share that the answer is a resounding “yes.”
In 2021, Pepper purchased the former Stearns & Foster building in Lockland, Ohio, just outside of Cincinnati. Built in 1912, our team approached it with a vision of turning it into a contemporary workspace. Our goal was to create a space that fosters collaboration, represents our values, brand and positions us to become a contributing member of the Lockland community. This video shares the story of our construction journey and what Pepper stands for.
Preserving history
The first challenge was restoring a 110-year-old historical building that had been sitting vacant for the last 20 years while following the historic society guidelines. This included rebuilding the rotted wood structure, restoring the interior and exterior brick, installing new wood floors to match the original construction, refurbishing the original windows and completing extensive plaster work on the walls and soffited ceilings.
Enhancing the employee experience
More modern accents – such as glass partitions and open-office furniture – were incorporated to re-frame this space into a collaborative and efficient work environment for our team. Our Cincinnati team officially moved into the space earlier this month, and we are actively working through finishing touches. Below are models of the space until final photography is available.
Living out our promise
Pepper is committed to building healthier, cleaner and smarter. Being our own client allowed us to execute on that commitment. We pushed the boundaries to achieve Net Zero on site, LEED Gold and WELL Silver certifications on a 110-year-old building, because we believe in driving action to care for our people and our planet.
Technology also played a key role in our goal to build smarter. From extensive 3D scans to modeling for internal design visualization to a 3D digital twin, our virtual construction team was involved from day one.
Re-framing Pepper Cincinnati’s future
Change can be hard, but the Lockland community has already made us feel welcomed. There is a strong sense of community pride by residents and local businesses, and we could not be more excited to be a part of the revitalization of the Lockland area. We’ve formed a strong partnership with the Lockland School District working on preconstruction for the renovation of their K-12 building which is scheduled to begin construction in summer 2023.
We are proud our new Cincinnati office is a true reflection of the three Tomorrow Transformed promises: empathy, technology and a dedication to high performance strategies. Our team is excited about the future we have re-imagined together in the Village of Lockland and to continue to grow as a community steward in 2023.
