From past experience with collaborative delivery methods, Advocate Aurora Health knew the value of patience. They’ve learned to invest in upfront planning time, knowing tangible payoff comes during construction.
So how can a team already well versed in Lean and IPD better leverage its partners upfront to improve productivity and track metrics? That's the challenge the healthcare provider presented the integrated team currently working on an Emergency Department renovation and expansion project.
The team responded with an innovative kick-off strategy that fostered collaboration. By leveraging Pepper's Chief Strategy Officer to lead the two-day session and incorporate teambuilding exercises, the team walked away prepared with a solid plan and, more importantly, energized about the process moving forward. The project team's metric goals are strategically aligned with Advocate Aurora Health's metrics and they will be able to self-evaluate throughout the design and construction process.
Pepper is using a digital form of pull planning on the project. The collaborative process allows everyone involved to identify and clarify the milestone moments and detailed tasks critical to the project's schedule. The team then identifies and removes any constraints that could prevent work from being completed as planned.
