The new 9,400-square-foot space, an expansion to Building E, is not only a performance space, but also a classroom. The theater serves as an instructional space for 16 classes that include public speaking, Introduction to Theater, acting, stagecraft and more.

Now located in the first floor corridor between Buildings D and E on the college’s Crystal Lake campus, the theater was moved from its original location, to allow for the expansion of classrooms and lab space serving MCC’s Computer Numeric Controls and Robotics advanced manufacturing programs.

The theater’s name is an apt description of the space. It’s like a big, black box. The beauty of a black box theater is that it can be changed from an audience-facing theater to a platform stage. The space creates a better experience for both the audience and performers.
