The first residential high-rise to be built on North Michigan Avenue in 5 years, the MILA at 200 N. Michigan aims to bring luxury apartments to a luxury area. The 41-story glass curtainwall building is just south of the Magnificent Mile and close to many downtown attractions. Before starting construction, Pepper demolished an existing six-story building. Upon completion, the cast-in-place structure with a glass curtainwall envelope will house 402 apartment units, 24,900 square feet of retail space on the bottom two floors and 125 parking spaces.
Pepper’s preconstruction services were key in creating a construction plan that matched the accelerated timeline for the project. The additional time spent in the planning phase allowed for the most efficient construction without compromising on quality.
This project is part of a larger development boom that plans to draw more people to downtown Chicago by creating additional residential spaces in the area. Including 200 N. Michigan, more than 6,000 apartment units will be added to the market in 2015 and 2016.
With an extensive portfolio of high-rise experience throughout the country, Pepper is excited to break ground on our first high-rise in Chicago. Having constructed so many of Chicago’s iconic buildings, we’re honored to keep building our city in new ways.
Pepper’s preconstruction expertise gives us the data and insights we need to manage risk wisely. With any project, we are looking for the right balance — the path that provides the best quality, in the least amount of time, for the least amount of money. Preconstruction planning is the key to finding that path, and it’s a real strength for Pepper.
